Show the Whole City of San Antonio How Regal Your Dog Is!
Your canine may be king or queen of your casa, but does he or she have what it takes to become San Antonio’s next top dog? The contest is on for El Rey Fido 2014 to see who will rise above the rest to join the 2014 El Rey Fido Royal Court!
Win a custom sketch by Patrick McDonnell
This year we have an exciting new addition to the El Rey Fido competition. Patrick McDonnell, artist of the world-renowned Mutts comic strip, has offered to draw a custom sketch for the winner of the El Rey Fido contest. As if the royal Grrrobes weren’t reason enough, you are competing for an original sketch of your dog! He or she could fit right in with Earl and Mooch. A raffle will be held in January of 2014 to determine who will be the recipient of a Mutts bonus package. In order to be eligible for that raffle you must have registered your dog for the El Rey Fido competition no later than December 31st 2013.

How to Win
It’s as simple as this: To become crowned El Rey Fido XII in April 2014, your dog (and you) must collect more money for the orphaned pets of the San Antonio Humane Society than any other canine-and-human pair. El Rey Fido will lead a Royal Court to include the next four top dog fundraisers. El Rey Fido XII and the Court will serve as ambassadors for the San Antonio Humane Society for the following year.

MUTTS has been described by Peanuts creator Charles Schulz as "one of the best comic strips of all time." McDonnell has received numerous awards for this strip, including awards for its environmental and animal advocacy. The MUTTS cartoons have been published in twenty-two compilation books in the U.S. and in numerous collections throughout the world. Shelter Stories: Love. Guaranteed features his popular animal shelter-themed strips accompanied by real-life pet adoption stories submitted by readers worldwide. McDonnell's website, muttscomics.com, promotes his animal and earth friendly philosophy. Consistent with McDonnell's concern for the environment, all of the MUTTS books are printed on recycled paper. He and his wife Karen O'Connell are vegetarian and happily reside with their rescue Jack Russell Terrier, Amelie, and, formerly feral, cat Not Ootie.
