  • Responsible for management and day-to-day operations
  • Assures the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Helps the Board of Directors determine Humane Society values, mission, vision, and short and long term goals
  • Assures program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation
  • Oversees the fiscal activities of the organization including budgeting, reporting and audit, and assures adequate controls
  • Fosters a culture of philanthropy throughout the Humane Society, and assures a donor-centered organization that nurtures loyalty through a comprehensive relationship-building program
  • Listens to clients, volunteers, donors and the community in order to improve services and generate community involvement
  • Assures community awareness of the Humane Society response to community needs
  • Serves as chief spokesperson for the Humane Society

    • Represents the Humane Society on local television and radio stations each week to showcase our adoptable pets, educate the public on a variety of subjects involving companion animals and to raise awareness of the pet overpopulation problem in San Antonio
    • Directs a continuing long range public relations and marketing program
    • Responsible for editorial directions, design, production and distribution of all agency publications 
    • Supervises Operations in Humane Education, Volunteer Services, Outreach,  Publications, and the SAHS website
    • Ensures public awareness, education, and growth of the organization through volunteers, literature, the media, humane education, and the website.

  • Manages and coordinates shelter operations
  • Ensures organizational efficiency by organizing, planning and supervising the programs related to the operation of the adoption center, surgical department, receiving department, and animal care department
  • Responsible for the well being and humane treatment of animals on and off site
  • Supervises building and ground maintenance, purchases supplies and equipment and is responsible for proper maintenance and use of equipment

    • Supervising and ensuring the health of all animals at the shelter
    • Monitoring of clinic and surgery staff in animal health capacity
    • Examination and treatment of sick/injured animals under our care
    • Spay/Neuter all animals coming through the shelter for adoption
    • Education of staff and public in the area of animal health and welfare
    • Organize and maintain policy consistent with generally accepted practices for good preventative medicine
    • Be a liason between other veterinarians and animal health professionals in and around the area

    Animal Health Staff
    The Humane Society employs part-time and full-time animal health technicians to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for documenting and evaluating the health status and temperament of the animals in our care. This includes providing appropriate medical care and screening of all incoming and adopted animals.

    Animal Care Staff
    The Humane Society employs part-time and full-time animal care technicians to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for general care and maintenance of the shelter animals. This includes feeding, cleaning, disinfecting and grooming. They also assist in the process of introducing potential pet adopters to the many pets.


    Adoption Counselor
    The Humane Society employs part-time and full-time adoption counselors/customer service representatives to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for preparing pets and their paperwork for adoption, providing accurate information and friendly service to the public, and screening potential pet adopters.
